Meet our Lowcountry Artists
Lewis Bowen, Sr. Hand Carved Silhouette
Lewis Bowen’s charming hand carved silhouettes hearken back to a popular 18th century art form. In 1996, he began showing his work with fewer than a dozen designs. Bowen now features more than 200 scenes and symbols of the Lowcountry, all intricately carved from laminated wood. He also does commissioned silhouette portraits of children. His award winning work can be attractively displayed above a doorway or picture frame, or on a shelf, mantel or desk.
Wes Haynes, Wood Artist
Wood worker, Wes Haynes, is a gifted artist and longtime St. Matthew’s Church member. He has created a number of very special pieces out of wood reclaimed from the 1965 fire at St. Matthew’s. These pieces include crosses, bookmarks, and boxes made from the steeple wood recovered from the fire. He also has a number of other high quality pieces crafted from a variety of wood types. Each piece is unique and beautiful.
